Texting with your customers

Your own texting number, where customer texts land, and how customers find the number on bids, invoices and texts.

Once two-way texting is on, your company has its own texting number. Customers can text it or reply to any text you send, and their texts land in Messages under Text messages. The screens below use simulated data and send nothing.

  1. 1 Find your texting number

Get notified when a customer texts

Everyone on your team who can see Messages gets a phone notification for each customer text, and the Messages menu item shows how many texts are unread. Opening a thread marks it read.

How customers get your number

  • Bids and invoices. “Questions? Text us at” and your number print on bid and invoice PDFs, the bid and invoice pages your customers open, and the emails that send them. It is on by default; turn it off in Settings, Notifications, SMS.
  • Your texts. The first appointment reminder, on-the-way text, job-complete text or material update a customer gets from you ends with “Reply here to reach us.” Each customer sees it once, and not at all if they have already texted you. It is never sent as a separate text and is left off when it would make a text longer than one message. Invoice, payment, receipt and bid texts never carry it.

Neither appears until your company can receive replies, so a customer is never told to text a number that does not reach you. STOP and HELP work the same as always.
