The other way a payment method gets saved: the customer opts in themselves. On the public payment page for any invoice generated by a recurring schedule, if the customer has no saved method yet, they see a checkbox offering to save the card or bank account they’re about to pay with and automatically pay future invoices from you. Checking it, then paying, turns Autopay on for that customer’s schedules going forward.
- Check the box to opt into autopay while paying.
- Click Pay Online to complete the payment that saves the method.
Public payment page, autopay opt-in: the checkbox a customer sees on a recurring invoice's public pay link, offering to save the payment method and automatically pay future invoices. Once enrolled, the checkbox is replaced with an "Autopay is on for this account" confirmation instead.
The fine print under that checkbox is the customer’s actual authorization, so it always names how to revoke: “You can stop autopay at any time by contacting [Your Company]”, plus “or from the link in your receipt emails” when Customers can cancel autopay themselves is on for that schedule.
